The National Trust are delighted to have been able to use 21st century technology to bring Cragside back to it’s former glory. I’m sure Lord William Armstrong would approve and would be delighted seeing the return of hydropower to the estate.

Hi Naomi, The Archimedean Screw will generate over a wide variety of flow levels and when operating at its optimum it will produce about 12kW of electricity. Over the course of a year it is expected to provide about 10% of Cragside’s electricity. This is the equivalent to lighting all the lights in the house for a year but it does not necessarily have to be used specifically for the lighting alone. It will produce the electricity for the loads that are required when it is generating ie. it can be computers, fridges, freezers etc

Is there the possibility of running any other electrical appliances from it?
